Training Length: 45 hours
Cost:    Community members/allied professionals - $225  
With 1 year LifeLine Volunteer Phone Counselor commitment - $25 (covers materials)

This interactive training covers all of the basics of intimate partner violence direct service work including:

  • History of the movement

  • Definition and dynamics of intimate partner violence

  • Impact of intimate partner violence on children

  • How intersecting social issues such as substance abuse, poverty, racism, immigration, and more help to perpetuate intimate partner violence

  • Skill building: screening and assessment for intimate partner violence, safety planning, empowerment counseling, lethality assessment, cultural competency, and understanding of community issues

  • Local resources and legal remedies

If you are interested in becoming a LifeLine Phone Counseling Volunteer, please complete a volunteer application (link) and submit it with a resume or description of relevant experience to ccoleman@helpwomen.org.  Volunteer applicants will be interviewed before acceptance into the program.  Additional requirements: criminal background check, child abuse history clearance, +/- fingerprinting are required by state law to provide direct services to callers.
