WIT's Adopt-A-Family Program matches donors with families in need during the holiday season.
Unique among other holiday giving programs, WIT's Adopt-A-Family encourages donors to give gift cards to select stores - such as food markets - chosen by WIT clients. This empowers women to shop for themselves, especially if they are struggling to provide basic necessities for their families. Last year, Adopt-A-Family donors made a difference for 49 families, including 101 children!
WIT Counselors identify families who are having an especially difficult time meeting basic needs and who will face additional challenges during the holiday season. Clients have told us that they feel more empowered shopping for their own families instead of receiving gifts, especially when they need basic necessities like food. We ask those clients to identify seven stores, including food markets, and rank them in order of their preference.
Next, we "match" the family with an individual, family, or organization in the community that has agreed to participate in the program. We share the family's gift card choice list with the donor, who purchases the gift cards and delivers or mails them to WIT's office. We suggest a minimum donation of $50.00 per family, but since this economy has been especially hard on our families, we also welcome larger donations. Last year, the average donation for family of three was $200.
For interested participants, please read the Adopt-A-Family Program Description (pdf) for more information. If you would like to participate, please fill out the Registration Form below by Friday, December 15, 2017. After we receive your signed agreement, we will send you information about the family, including first names and the names and ages of their children.

*For donors registering by 12/15, the new gift drop-off deadline is Tuesday, 12/19.
Adopt-A-Family donors receive handwritten thank you notes from their adopted families. This is from a card that a WIT client wrote to her Adopt-A-Family donor in 2015.
