WIT provides on-going support to all active volunteers through regular staff supervision, newsletters, meetings and refresher trainings. Volunteers and staff comprise WIT’s Sisterhood of Support, providing Volunteers with the opportunity to network with other women whose passion and empathy inspires them to work in domestic violence and substance abuse. We work hard to make volunteering at Women In Transition a personally and professionally enriching experience.
Playcare Volunteers
In order to make our services accessible to parents with young children, WIT offers on-site Playcare for children while their mothers or caretakers are in group or individual counseling sessions. To provide this essential service we need volunteers! Playcare Volunteers come in to WIT’s office at least one day a week during business hours to play with and coordinate activities for children who need supervision.
Currently WIT is looking for a weekly Playcare Volunteer for Thursday mornings from 10 am – 2 pm. We are looking for someone to start immediately and this position will most likely go through the end of the fall. This position requires an interview and orientation. If this position interests you and you have availability, please call Beth H. at 215-564-5301×116 or email Beth H.
LifeLine Phone Counseling Volunteers
WIT’s LifeLine phone counseling provides support, information and referral services to individuals who are endangered by domestic violence and/or substance abuse. WIT relies on a diverse and dedicated corps of volunteers to staff the LifeLine Monday-Friday between 9am-7pm.
All prospective LifeLine Counseling Volunteers must attend WIT’s 45-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training. The training sessions are held in our Center City office. Extensive training and supervision is also provided.
Volunteers are asked to commit to between 6 and 9 hours each month for a minimum of one year of service. Volunteers must have weekday availability to take shifts from Monday through Friday during the hours of 9am and 7pm. WIT has the capability to send the LifeLine to Volunteers’ homes as long as they have a home phone number or a cell phone number that is “local” to the 215 area code (which includes some 610 area codes). All volunteers must have Internet access and basic computer skills. LifeLine volunteers are required to complete PA Child Abuse History and Criminal Clearance background checks.
