Philadelphia City Council will be making its proclamation of February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month THIS THURSDAY, Jan 28, at 10a.m.

Come out to City Hall and show your support when Council makes this proclamation of February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month!

Thursday, January 28th

Session starts at 10 a.m., but guests should arrive by 9:45 a.m.

City Council Chambers (Room 400), Philadelphia City Hall (enter through security on the north-east side of City Hall. Bring a photo ID)

Community Symposium on Diversity, Bullying, and School-Age Violence

When: February 1st from 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Where: Behrakis Hall at Drexel University, 3210 Chestnut St.

Open to community

Teen Dating Violence Training for Professionals Who Work with Teens

When: February 5th 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

Where: Achieving Reunification Center, 700 Market Street, Suite 500

Open to any professionals who work with teens (such as social workers, health care providers, case managers, community educators, etc)

When: February 6th from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm (for middle and high school teachers)

Philly Youth Poetry Night

Youth Forums:

Where: The Attic Youth Center, 255 S. 16th Street

When: Thursdays, 3:00 – 6:00 pm

Open to anyone 13-19 years old

Details: A series of forums for young people & moderated by young people will take place Thursdays afternoons in February. All forums are all-inclusive regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

February 11th – Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
February 18th – Loving Yourself: Self-Care and Self-Esteem
February 25th – Maintaining a loving relationship with yourself and others

The Teen Dating Violence Awareness Philadelphia Coalition is made up of a committed group of teens and adults working to spread awareness about teen dating violence. Coalition members include WIT, WAA, Congreso, LHS, Y-HEP, WOAR, The Bryson Institute of the Attic Youth Center, GALAEI and Youth Services Inc

On Sunday December 20th from Noon until 5 PM and for the fifth year running Ten Thousand villages will partner with Women In Transition for a joyous day of community shopping.

Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit Fair Trade Organization that provides vital, fair income to people in developing countries by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America.

Women In Transition empowers women who are endangered by domestic violence and substance abuse to make positive changes in their lives. Since 1971 WIT has provided a 24 hour hot line, information and referrals, counseling and advocacy, and community education in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Come to the Ten Thousand Villages store at 1122 Walnut in Center City Philadelphia between the hours of Noon and 5 PM on Sunday December 20th and 15% of your purchases will benefit Women In Transition.

Adopt a Family This Holiday Season

Holidays can be a particularly challenging time for the women and children that come to Women In Transition, as they struggle against domestic violence, substance abuse and poverty. Your kindness can help to bring joy and hope to the holiday season.Last year, Women In Transition asked donors to send gift cards in increments of $25.00 to stores their adopted families chose, empowering women to shop for their families themselves. Please click on the Donor Agreement to participate, which describes the program guidelines in more detail. If you would like to participate in the Adopt-a-Family Program this season, please read, sign, and mail or fax a copy of the agreement back to us.Please acknowledge your participation and submit no later than December 1. After receiving your signed agreement, we will send information about your adopted family, including first names, preferred stores and supermarkets. Donations must be received by December 11.

WIT at the Zoo for Mother’s Day

Join Women In Transition on Mother’s Day (May 10th) for an afternoon at the Philadelphia Zoo and a day with Mom! A generous portion of zoo ticket proceeds bought through Women In Transition are being donated back to our agency. Women In Transition supporters can check in at the Zoo entrance starting at 1pm to enjoy the Zoo.

WIT Night Out at the WiLMA – March 6th and 13th
